Is this a relatively up to date report because my understanding from people who have been there recently our credit and debit cards still do not work there?
Steve Cosgrove says
No credit cards work in Cuba. There are no ATM’s. So take cash.

Steve, we visited Cuba in 2019….it was In Support Of The People. We flew out of Miami, obtained our visa at the airport…a little kiosk popped up right at the gate 30 minutes before departure, handed our application and received our visas.
At the time we could not use American Bank issued ATM cards or credit cards. I just went to my bank and exchanged for Euros….that’s what we used the entire trip.
You can’t stay in Hotels, they are government owned. We stayed in an Airbnb apartment, and ate all meals in local restaurants.
Tours I booked through Airbnb were hosted by locals….staying in their apartments, eating locally, is all in support of the people.
It is also advised to hold onto all paperwork, receipts for 5 years.
Steve Cosgrove says
and the rules have changed since 2019 and keep changing. Check to verify everything before you book anything to make sure your trip is legal and you don’t get in a trouble by going.
