Ten palaces, forts and heritage stays across Asia
Asia’s answer to the European castle is the fort, the palace, the madrasa and the merchant mansion — and a striking number of them take guests. These ten span nine countries, from a students’ madrasa in the walled city of Khiva to a king’s private guesthouse at the gates of Angkor.
Ordered by price. The list splits cleanly around $200, and the lower half is where most trips get built — on these itineraries the airfare is the expensive part, not the hotel.
If any of these stays interest you, the agents at InterlineTravel.com can get you booked not only at the property (assuming it has availability) but also your rental car and a complete custom tour of Asia. Just call them at 800 766-2911 or email stevec@dynamictravel.com.

What the rate actually covers changes everything here
On this list a headline price means very different things. Amansara includes your meals, your guide and your temple transport, so the comparison to a room-only rate elsewhere is meaningless. Gangtey is half board but Bhutan adds a per-person daily levy. Koyasan-style temple pricing and Gangtey are quoted per person, not per room. Amangalla folds in breakfast and afternoon tea; Umaid Bhawan charges breakfast separately.
We price these properly, in the right season, with the transfers and the guiding attached — and we’ll tell you where the money is genuinely buying something and where it isn’t. Tell us the countries you want and how long you have.
