Bordeaux Walking tour (Half day)
We start off by recounting the beginnings of the American exploration by the Frenchman Jacques Cartier in the 16th century. Next, we delve into the Enlightenment and the American Independence from the English, obtained with the help of the Marquis de Lafayette. Followed by Thomas Jefferson’s brief stay in Bordeaux and the exportation of wines to the New World by 18th century American wine merchants. A leap forward into the First World War, during which Bordeaux’s ‘New Bassens’ was entirely constructed by the American regiments in 1917 as a supplies port to help the western front. We end the tour in the 21st century, by mentioning current investments and some of the finest Bordeaux wine chateaux owned by Americans.
