Top 10 Favorite Experiences in Lisbon

September 5, 2024 by Steve Cosgrove 4 Comments

PORTUGAL IS PERFECT. And Lisbon leads the way in adventure whether city-centric or just steps away to incredibly diverse gorgeous landscapes and adventures. InterlineTravel.com knows how to create it beautifully and here are a few of the things we love to do there!

A NIGHT OF FADO: Dive deep into the medieval, Alfama district with its mazelike narrow streets and charming colorful buildings and settle in for an evening of deep, soulful live music paired with a home cooked traditional meal. There is nothing more Portuguese!

A COOL RIDE: Lisbon’s seven hills can be complex so try a unique vehicle to tackle it all! Whether Tuk Tuk or Segway, go kart or vintage tram, there are tons of different ways to sightsee!

STREET ART CHALLENGE: Lisbon’s meaningful, colorful street art is recognized the world over- team up with your travel partners, get handed a Polaroid camera and take on a fun challenge ending with an opportunity to create your own graffiti on canvas that you can take home. Especially fun for kids!

RE-FOOD: Though cooking classes in locals’ homes is widely popular, there are opportunities to give back too! Embark on a collection of extra meals from restaurants, help repackage it and go with a guide to deliver it to families in need.

VINEYARD PICNIC: Marfa is just 30 minutes from the city and is an idyllic place to spend an afternoon chilling in the vineyards with a gourmet bespoke picnic sampling the wine and the wares from the farm.

JEEP SAFARI: Explore the mystical fairytale forests of nearby Sintra and it’s offroad tracks, paired with a sip and savor food experience to complement the thrill-ride.

KAYAKING: Lisbon’s brilliant coast is excellent for exploring through its blue waters and in and out of little islands and caves of nearby Arrabida Natural Park. Pair it with an adventurous afternoon of rappelling and rock climbing in Sintra with dramatic mountain views.

CASCAIS FOR THE WIN: A tightly kept secret, this charming seaside town has plenty of boho chic shops, a lively promenade, delicious eateries and a vibe that permeates, instantly bringing you to chill mode. Just a short scenic easy train ride from city center.

Webinar Poll

We want to gauge your interest in attending or watching a travel webinar. These would be about 30 minutes long and focus on one vendor or destination, or even a combination (think Sandals Resorts, Bahamas Tourism Office, Holland America to Alaska, or Princess Cruises to the Baltic). The webinar would be free to attend, and […]

Ten palaces, forts and heritage stays across Asia

Europe gets the castles, but Asia’s fortresses, palaces, madrasas, and merchant mansions also offer beds for the night. We found ten options across nine countries, and the range of experiences tells the story. The list contrasts regional architectures while inviting readers to imagine a stay. The reason to let us book these rather than an […]

You Can Sleep in a Japanese Castle. There Are Exactly Two, and One Takes 30 Bookings a Year.

Japan has more than a hundred castles. It lets you walk through most of them between nine and five, but only two hand you a key overnight. At Ozu on Shikoku, you arrive at 5 pm after the public leaves. You are announced as lord of the domain in a reenactment of the 1617 procession […]

A Castle Night in Europe Starts at $95. Most People Never Find Out

Most of Europe’s great castles sell you a ticket and send you home at five. But here are ten of them that hand you a key instead — and the entry point isn’t what you’d guess. However, at the Parador de Sigüenza, a 12th-century Moorish citadel ninety minutes from Madrid, a double room starts around […]

Twelve castles in England and Scotland you can actually sleep in

Britain has thousands of castles and lets you walk through most of them between ten and five. We looked for castles that hand you the key, feed you dinner, and remain yours in the morning. Twelve fit these criteria: six in England and six in Scotland, all open and taking bookings now. Not all are […]
